This morning, a coworker said she hoped I had a nice and relaxing vacation. I told her that I would call it more of an “interesting” vacation because hurricane remnants in Tennessee on Saturday, October 10, meant my husband was racing his single at Oak Ridge in a windy and icy downpour, which he told me was the worst row of his life. After that, the conditions deteriorated so much that the women’s singles were cancelled for safety reasons. We had good weather for our Sunday double race, however, and we improved on our time from last year, although we did not place.

Then we were off to Boston, where we had a nice sunny practice day on Thursday after parking the trailer in a good spot very close to a dock. The temperature was comfortable, and the blue sky was lovely.

Friday morning wasn’t so good. We were helping a teammate who had to race her single in heavy rain. She was soaking wet and shivering after she got back to the dock. There was no rain on Saturday for our double race, under a mostly cloudy sky, but it had the strongest headwind we’ve ever struggled against; so, my vacation was definitely interesting, to say the least.

I can’t complain, though, because it was good experience anyway; and now that we are back home, we’re having a beautiful string of sunny and warm afternoons with very little wind, perfect for easy practice rows.
