At the end of the workday, my husband and I got a call from our daughter in Auckland. She was out walking her dog in the morning. When she lived nearby, she used to call often, but now it’s not as easy because of the time difference. She sounded a bit homesick, chatting about things she liked to do in June around here. We wished that we could see her in person, but we were glad to hear her voice anyway, and the simple gift of a call made today a good day.

It’s not easy to be away from parents/kids, somedays it hits harder than others. Beautiful image!
We’re going to visit in January, but that still seems far away.
So true. I moved away from home in 1987, and now home is in Illinois. It was tough when our kids sprouted wings and left. I remember those Sunday calls from California to my dad and my mom in Texas. I know it was comforting to hear their friendly voice on the other end of the line. Hang in there to both of you. Peace.
At least now it’s easier to stay in touch online. We use WhatsApp regularly, and its calls are free, unlike long distance in the Dark Ages of the 1980s. When my husband was in school, his dad sometimes complained to his mom about how much she was spending on long distance calls to the kids. It’s quite a different world.
